A project moves through three stages: beginning in the classroom, moving out into the world, and returning to the classroom. It results in a tangible outcome based on a unified theme eg. a presentation, a report, a poster or even a product such as a cooked dish. It involves team-work and is designed to develop learner autonomy and access to authentic language and contexts. We made a mini-project in Katy's class and this is one of the final products.
On Friday 18th some of us went to the Jurassic Coast. We were looking for fossils on the beach and in the mud along the coastline. It was an exciting adventure! We were lucky to have 3 biologists helping us all the time. We found a lot of ammonites and belemnites.
Starting our visit to the Jurassic strata at Lyme Regis beach.
A fossil of Ammonites about 50 cm wide and 180 million years old.
A detail of the strata.
Marga, Susana and Clau standing on a sea floor about 180 million years old.
Last Sunday we went to Land's End, the most western point in England. It is also the most visited outdoor tourist attraction in Cornwall.
After that we went to St. Michael's Mount, an island where one can find a medieval church and castle. It can be visited taking a boat trip, but when the tide is low you can walk along the man-made causeway.
This night we had a party at the Rendezvous Cafe, here in the Campus. There were people from UK, France, Siria, Oman, Spain, Germany... We had a great time there. We sang two Galician songs: A Rianxeira and O Pirimpimpin. And also an Irish one: The Drunken Sailor. Besides, we made sangría for all the people at the party.
