Discovering fossils

On Friday 18th some of us went to the Jurassic Coast. We were looking for fossils on the beach and in the mud along the coastline. It was an exciting adventure! We were lucky to have 3 biologists helping us all the time. We found a lot of ammonites and belemnites.

Starting our visit to the Jurassic strata at Lyme Regis beach.
A fossil of Ammonites about 50 cm wide and 180 million years old.

Saltram House

On Wednesday some of us went to Saltram House, a Georgian mansion which was the film location for Sense and Sensibility.

Land's End & St. Michael's Mount

Last Sunday we went to Land's End, the most western point in England. It is also the most visited outdoor tourist attraction in Cornwall.

After that we went to St. Michael's Mount, an island where one can find a medieval church and castle. It can be visited taking a boat trip, but when the tide is low you can walk along the man-made causeway.

Marjon's international night

This night we had a party at the Rendezvous Cafe, here in the Campus. There were people from UK, France, Siria, Oman, Spain, Germany... We had a great time there. We sang two Galician songs: A Rianxeira and O Pirimpimpin. And also an Irish one: The Drunken Sailor. Besides, we made sangría for all the people at the party.

It's sunny!!!

Yesterday it was very sunny and hot, so some of us went to Tinside Pool at Plymouth Hoe. The pool is semi-circular and is separated from the sea by just a wall. Indeed it is filled with sea water.

The Gingerbread Man

Today we were working upon a traditional story, The Gingerbread Man. We developed several activities based on the tale: a warmer, a role-play, a TPR game... We really enjoyed this class. Thank you, Tracey.

After having lunch we went to Killerton House, a 18th-century summer house surrounded by fantastic gardens. The weather let us enjoy this trip, it was quite sunny all the day.

The Eden Project & Charlestown

Last Sunday we visited The Eden Project, in Cornwall. It is a huge enviromental complex with lots of plant species from around the world. There are two covered biomes: the first one emulates a tropical environment and the second biome a warm temperate, Mediterranean environment. We all enjoyed the visit very much, above all the tropical biome.
Later we spent some time in Charlestown, a little village with a very nice dock.
